Global Spread of H5N1 " Bird Flu " Globally  - Islamabad Pakistan

The global spread of the H5N1 "Bird Flu" continues.   In Islamabad Pakistan, the Pakistani Ministry of Health has advised the provincial as well as local district governments to start preparing to adopt standard procedures and measures useful in preventing any outbreak of avian influenza.

It appears that a season rife with the wake of high transmission will soon arrive.  As well to reinforce the message there is a global threat posed by H5N1 influenza virus, with modern rapid as well as slower forms of transportation.

Recently there have been a number of Saudi reports of outbreaks in H5N1 Bird Flu in

Poultry as well in game animals such as Ostriches.  With the yearly pilgrimage of devotees returning from the Hajj in Mecca this draws attention to these issues.

The Ministry of Health had already begun to adopt special preventive measures on the outbreak of influenza.  These procedures have been instituted mainly in the NWFP poultry farms.

The necessary microbiological viral transport medium required that is required for the transport of suspected human samples has been ordered and delivered to the appropriate clinics and medical and medical support staff personnel.  This along with related guidelines has been dispatched to the provinces and the district health departments.

A system of monitoring poultry farms, including registration of such facilities as well as a monitoring and scheduled observation system and records may have to be instituted.

Worldwide global research on "Bird Flu" has found that the H5N1 "Bird Flu" Virus has the propensity as well as skill and ability to rapidly spread within farms and faculties in one area not only by infected poultry but also by such inanimate objects as such as contaminated equipment, vehicles, feed and machinery.  As well it has been noted that the bird flu can rapidly spread outside of its geographic area through transmission by wild and wild migrating birds.  Isolated outback areas with limited road access may still consist both a threat of reservoirs and areas that bird flu can and may spread to.

According to health experts, the virus may spread from one farm to another and even to population by mechanical means like contaminated equipment, vehicles, feed, bird-cages, etc. They added the fatality rate of disease stood at 70 per cent, which was very high.
